Mtibwa Sugar Estate Limited. (MSE) is located at 38oE 6oS in Turiani Division, 102 km north of Morogoro town and 290 km from Dar-es-Salaam. It is situated at an altitude of 350 m above sea level at the Eastern foothills of the Uruguru Mountain range. Sugarcane growing and the production of sugar and related products are the main activities of Mtibwa Sugar Estates Ltd. Cane is supplied from the company’s own fields and some small portion from small outgrowers in surrounding villages. Part of the sugar produced is exported to the EU under the Sugar Protocol while the remaining is sold locally. The company annually produces around 130 000 tons of sugar from approximately 1.25 million tons of sugar cane, 55% of which is cultivated by our own cane growing operations and 45% by our growers who continue to benefit from extension support, and training and development provided by the business. Under the company’s successful “route to market” sugar marketing business model, Kilombero enjoys significant local consumer support for its direct consumption brown sugar sold under the ‘Bwana Sukari’ brand name.
