    TAZAMA Pipelines Limited was incorporated in 1968. The pipeline runs from the Single Point Mooring terminal atthe outer anchorage of in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, to the Tanzanian and Italian Petroleum Refining Company (TIPER) refinery in Dar-es-Salaam and the Indeni refinery in Ndola, Zambia. The pipeline was commissioned in 1968, with capacity of 22,000 barrels per day. The pipeline is owned by Tazama Pipeline Limited, a joint company of the governments of Zambia (66.7%) and Tanzania (33.3%). The 1,710 kilometers of pipeline consists of two major portions, one measuring 954 kilometers and eight inches in diameter, and another portion of 798 kilometers and 12 inches in diameter. There are seven pumping stations, 5 of which are located in Tanzania and two in Zambia. As of November 2016, both the Tanzanian and Zambian governments have discussed either modernizing the aging Tazama pipeline or creating a new pipeline to run parallel to the original line. The new project aims to facilitate the transportation of crude oil, refined oil, and natural gas. In May 2020, Tazama Pipeline said that it was seeking a $400 million loan to expand the 954-km, 8-inch portion of the pipeline. The organization is an equal opportunity employer.

    At the behest of the Tanzanian Government, the green field project of Bagamoyo Sugar Ltd (Bagamoyo Sugar), a unit of Bakhresa Group, was incorporated on 01 December 2016, to grow sugar cane in the nucleus estate and produce sugar at Makurunge, Bagamoyo District. The main objective of the project is not only reducing dependence on sugar imports and attaining self-sufficiency, but also producing surplus sugar for export. It is the first time that this project is being implemented in Tanzania at this scale. The sugar plant is being supplied by Thyssenkrupp India Pvt Ltd, a German company based in India and the farm is supported for irrigation using state-of-the-art digital farm technology, from Netafim, an Israeli-based company. The project implementation is going on as per schedule to start commercial production by mid-2022.  In phase 1 of the project, it is estimated to produce about 30,000 tonnes of sugar. As per the Group’s vision of supporting the Tanzanian community, this project in the village of Makurunge is generating employment opportunities for thousands of unemployed youth.
