Kilombero Sugar Company Limited (KSCL), located in the heart of Tanzania’s Kilombero Valley, is the nation’s largest sugar producer, proudly marketing its products under the strong “Bwana Sukari” brand. As part of the Illovo Sugar Africa Group, the largest sugar producer on the continent, KSCL plays a pivotal role in Tanzania’s agricultural and industrial landscape. Operating two agricultural estates and sugar mills, Msolwa and Ruembe, KSCL manages Tanzania’s largest crop estate, covering 26,000 hectares. A significant portion of this (approximately 16,000 hectares) is cultivated by over 8,000 smallholder farmers, known as Kilombero Growers, who supply around 45% of the sugarcane crushed by the company. This collaborative model not only ensures a steady supply of cane but also fosters economic growth within the local community, having led to the registration of over 200 businesses in the valley. With an annual production of over 126,000 tons of sugar, KSCL is dedicated to producing quality, affordable sugar that helps Tanzania achieve self-sufficiency. The company offers “Bwana Sukari” in various pack sizes, from 50g to 50kg, catering to diverse consumer needs. Beyond sugar, KSCL also operates an ethanol distillery, further contributing to the local economy. An ongoing expansion project aims to double sugar production to 271,000 tonnes, significantly impacting national economic growth and reducing reliance on sugar imports.
