Honeyguide Foundation Tanzania is a Tanzanian organization founded 15 years ago with the aim of advancing community-based and led approaches to conservation. Our mission is to make conservation deliver real benefits and be driven by local communities out of their own interest and motivation. We focus all our activities and investments on community-owned and managed Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), seeing them as social enterprises that provide for both people and wildlife. At Honeyguide, we see ourselves as social entrepreneurs committed to developing sustainable enterprises within community protected areas of northern Tanzania. We wholeheartedly believe in the importance of local ownership in conservation, and so our work focuses on empowering people and communities to protect their land and natural resources. Together we are all Tanzanians dedicated to creating a Tanzania of tomorrow in which people and wildlife not only coexist, but live in a state of mutual benefit and interdependence. Honeyguide runs programs which strengthen community-owned conservation areas in northern Tanzania. Our current projects are being conducted in community wildlife areas which collectively span nearly 500,000 hectares of land.
